The tool that I chose to learn about was the Read and Write LeapPad, specifially for elementary students. I plan to teach elementary education. This tool is made specifically for children ages 4-8 years old. It is an interactive tool that helps students learn how to read, write, and even solve math problems. Click on the link for a short tutorial over LeapPad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD1KgbMysdA

What I could really use Leappad for in the classroom is to help students learn letter sounds and how to sound out words. This would also be a useful tool for students to learn to write on. It would be a great way to change up the monotony of some classroom reading by using this fun and interactive game.

Follow this link to see what a student has to say about LeapPad and how it creates excitement about learning in the classroom.

  1. LeapPad could be used in a secondary math setting by testing and assessing speed in basic math skills. Middle and high school students should be able to do all of the arithmetic problems LeapPad could present to them very quickly.

The teacher or another student could time a student on how quickly they could work through all the problems accurately. There could be some kind of system worked out where a student would get x amount of points for speed and loses y amount of points for incorrect answers.
