Assistive Technologies

This assistive technology is an on-screen keyboard that allows students who have difficulties with a regular keyboard to use their mouse and type with that.

By going into the ease of access option in the control panel, you can access a voice narrator who can read to students what is on the screen. This is very useful for students who have a reading disability or vision disability.

This assistive technological tool lets students who have a vision impairment see what they are doing on the computer. It can be accessed once again, by going into the control panel and clicking on the ease of access option.

Classroom Communication

The methods I will use to communicate to my students and their parents will be both traditional and modern. I will have a weekly newsletter for all my students to take home with an updated calendar for the month ahead, as well as information on what we have and will be doing in class the next week. The newsletter will also feature a section where outstanding students and parents will be thanked and congratulated.

Also, I will have a classroom website with an updated calendar for parents to check and see what is going on in my classroom. The website will have contact information as well as a "syllabus" so parents will know what is going on in the classroom and what their child should be bringing home. The website will be designed for the use of parents but students will also be able to check it as well if need be.

Linked to that website I will have my personal classroom blog. This is where parents and students can read up on their progress. Students exemplifying an outstanding work ethic, behaviour, or overall performance will be praised on the blog. Also, parents that are helping out and are involved in the classroom will be thanked. The blog will also show interesting things that have happened in class. More importantly, my personal classroom blog will not have anything negative posted on it at all. The blog will have quick, easy to read, posts that will be designed to communicate as well as further engage students and parents.

Station 9

White Americans make up most of the population. Pacific Islanders were the smallest minority. It is interesting because Native Americans used to be the dominant culture in America and now represent only .8% of the population.
This also counts for Leslie Groganz, Maia Snyder, Katie McMahon

Content Area Blogpost

The tool that I chose to learn about was the Read and Write LeapPad, specifially for elementary students. I plan to teach elementary education. This tool is made specifically for children ages 4-8 years old. It is an interactive tool that helps students learn how to read, write, and even solve math problems. Click on the link for a short tutorial over LeapPad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD1KgbMysdA

What I could really use Leappad for in the classroom is to help students learn letter sounds and how to sound out words. This would also be a useful tool for students to learn to write on. It would be a great way to change up the monotony of some classroom reading by using this fun and interactive game.

Follow this link to see what a student has to say about LeapPad and how it creates excitement about learning in the classroom.
